LANGUAGES OF ISIMIIR:

ABYSSAL/INFERNAL: Demons and Devils were the first targets of the Erelaine Inquisition and were virtually eradicated in all civilized countries other than Trakaldar, where they hid in the evil forest, biding their time. As the Trakaldan Forest is not a fan of Demons or Devils either, they were prejudicially murdered there, just like the humans that they often plagued. They found refuge in the misty semi-plane called the Grey. Abyssal and Infernal are dead languages to all but the most evil scholar, evil priest, warlock, wizard, diabolist, sorceror, witch, infernalist, or demonologist.

ANIMIST: This is the language of the Animist people of Rhamier, Skraelund, Guavhardiim, and even Kajimara. Because the animal folk are so diverse, sound is widely accompanied by hand and body gestures, which aid greatly in communication when a wolf animist is trying to trade shells with a hawk animist. Though considered a lesser language to Sylvan by many creatures, the Animist tongue is a feather in any woodsman's cap and is universally used in Rhamier and Skraelund.

ARCANIST: This is the official language of Arcane magic, and is used by Wizards and other types of scholarly caster that use study to tap into the scientifical forces of magick, rather than the spontaneous flow of mystical energies. Wizards maintain that the complex scientific formulae allow greater understand of the forces of mystical energy and better control and application.

AULD DWARVEN: This is the ancient language of the Elder Dwarves From Autarkis, the northern homeland of the Dwarves. This language is so ancient that even most dwarves don't understand it, but it is the language of Rune Magick and thus, with the rediscovery of Rune Magick, it has enjoyed a small resurgence amongst Dwarven Scholars, Mages, and Priests.

BANDGLAN LOW-SPEAK: The country of Kajimara has gone through several regime changes, first being called Toorimor, then Bandgla, and now Kajimara. 'Bandglan' is considered to be the Commoner language and is the officially spoken language of Kajimara, being a mixture between Kai Lin and Isimiirian Common.

CELESTIAL: This is the universal language of the church, priests are required to learn this language as part of their training. Outside of the church, paladins, clerics, and other divine casters and representatives use this language and all scrolls of a divine nature are in this language.

DRACONIC: Unlike in many worlds, dragons in Isimiir are rare, and those that are alive are usually Epic Level and known by individual names like Xeng Xoung, Belargo, Autarkis, or the Shadow Dragon of the East. Dragons don't often expect to speak to mortals, rarely teaching their languages, sharing their magicks, or even acknowledging the presence of lesser races at all. Nevertheless there are cults of worshippers and Dragonborne mortals who speak the language.

DRUIDIC: A Special Language developed by the druids and driven underground by the Inquisition, this fiercely guarded language is never spoken to anyone that is not druidic. This is due to the betrayal of the Druid Cult by tortured allies during the height of the Inquisition. This almost led to the total extinction of Druids across Isimiir, a mistake they vowed never to allow again.

DWARVEN: This is the modern language of the Dwarves, a technical language that is the default language for engineers and miners. Dwarves have a proud culture that lasts thousands of years and the language has slowly changed over time so that Auld Dwarven, the original language is now almost unrecognizable.

ELDRITCH: This is the language of Warlocks and Witches and other casters of Eldtritch Magicks, though not necessarily evil, it is a banned language and when the Inquisition spread across Isimiir, Eldritch speakers were obvious targets. Today most people don't even recognize the sound of the complicated syllables.

ELEMENTAL: The four elemental languages (Aquan, Auran, Ignan, and Terran) are spoken almost exclusively by Druids and the Kai Lin, who are elemental beings themselves. Belargoans are familiar with Ignan as they frequently meet fire creatures from other planes.

ELVEN, FEY: This is the uncorrupted elven language spoken by Elven and Sidhith travelers from the other planes. It is so beautiful that to speak it, a person must have a 15 CHA minimum just to sound the words. It is the pure language of Sorcerous Magick, and is jealously guarded by the elves who wish no other unworthy race to speak it.

ELVEN, ISIMIIRIAN: This is the language of the Isimiirian elf, a blend of Faerie, Sylvan, Human, and Zanitarian court. It is a beautiful language and is the common language of Bards, poets, and Encaustian Knights who wish to charm ladies with sensual words. Poems and Songs by master bards and politiciansare typically written in Isimiirian Elvish if they wish to impress.

GOBLINOID: Common Language of all goblinoids, ubiquitous across Isimiir and even the Monsterlands, it nevertheless is riddled with slang and can be almost impossible to understand depending on the different dialect and location of the speaker.

GIANTIC: Giants, ogres, and their relatives are relatively uncommon in Isimiir though they are common in Autarkis and Belargo. After the fall of the Isimiirian Empire, the once, almost extinct giants have rebounded, though stinging from their almost doomed fate, they stay away from lives of most humans, only attacking if they don't expect repercussions.

GNOLLISH: This is the yipping, chittery, and laughing language of the Gnolls, is scary to listen to when traveling through Rhamier, where they are very common enemies of the tribes. Gnollish is very difficult to master as gnolls are not usually the kind of creatures to sit and talk with others. Several Rhamierians and many Animists have mastered the language nonetheless, a good thing to do when trading with the sly, malevolent, and untrustworthy hyenas.

ISIMIIRIAN COMMON: This is pretty much the universal language of the Isimiirian Empire and is an old tongue taught to humans, half-orcs, and half-ogres by elves when they were still servants of the empire. When in doubt, try Isimiirian Common when communicating with strangers.

KAI LIN / KAJIMARAN HIGH SPEAK: This is the language of the mysterious Kai Lin, like Zanitarian Noble, it is banned from the masses and jealously guarded by the secretive Kai Lin who dislike having anyone listen in on their coversations. Non-Kai Lin will be executed if they are overheard speaking the tongue.

MAMLUKI: When the Elves eradicated their arch enemies, they took slaves of some of the races they called sub-elvens the languages of those peoples died except for their slaves, the Mamluk. Now, only Zanitarian Slaves known Mamluki, a dead language some several thousand years old and only spoken in Isimiir and specifically only in Zanitar, the only country where Mamluk live. as it's known as a low class slave language, there is no great urge for anyone other than Mamluk to learn it.

Q'AANITE: This is the dreaded language of the Q'aan, the archenemies of Isimiir, listening to it usually means you are going to die very shortly. There are very few living speakers of the Q'aan  language in Isimiir and they are the Q'aan. This language sounds like violence personified.

RHAMIERIAN: This is the ancient language of the Rhamierians, who live in nomadic tribes, following herbs of buffalo and living off of the land. the language, though guttural and monotone sounding to Isimiirian ears, is poetic and beautiful, using beautiful natural images to convey expressions. It is thought to be the precursor of Sylvan.

RUNIC (DWARVEN): Only certain classes know the secrets of Runecrafting and this is the most secret language a Dwarf can know. Unlike all other dwarven races, the language has never been translated and cannot be interrogated from the Dwarf as the power is divine and translated directly from Durkault himself.  Only Durkaultian Priests can learn Runic.

SYLVAN: This is the Common of the Nature and Fey races and a Druid, Scout, or Ranger who doesn't know this language will be at such a disadvantage that he will feel crippled. Unicorn, Faeries, Dryads, and many other creatures will use this language first when speaking to a wood walker, considering the human tongue as vulgar.

THIEVE'S CANT: This is the special language of the rogue, beggar, and vagrant, the least of society's classes. This highly colorful and inventive language changes almost daily and is consistent with doublespeak, a rogue proficient in the language can hold an entire conversation with people around and the people listening will be none the wiser.

TRAKALDAN BLACK: This is a disgusting language used by the witches, warlocks, dark priests, and other evil and corrupted races and classes of Trakaldar. The person who speaks this language feels black blood welling up in his throat and will find this mouth dripping withblackened corrupted blood if spoken too long. This is used for only the worst purposes imagineable and never lightly even from those that know the eldritch syllables.

ZANITARIAN NOBLE: The language of half-elf nobility when they choose to speak amongst commoners and not be understood. This language is considered by elves to be the language of the 'betrayers' and is purposefully never learned or acknowledged by Faerie Elves as it is regarded as a lesser language. This is taught to Isimiirian nobility Isimiir-wide, but is banned from the lesser classes and punishment is 10 lashes or more, depending on the master.
