WARFORGED LORE:
KNOWLEDGE 10:
The Warforged are an old idea. Men interred into living armor so they can fight better. However, though many races tried to make this feat a reality, only dwarves created them with any real success.
KNOWLEDGE 15:
What everyone knows:
The warforged are soldiers made of metal with the spirits or souls of a dwarf or other willing race into a metal body. They make good fighters for a time but eventually go insane. They are illegal and many countries ban them including Lazarius because of their tendency to be unstable.
KNOWLEDGE 20:
What most people know:
The Warforged can only be made by Dwarven Priests called Runeforgers. They alone have the control necessary to make the Warforged and keep them sane, however, the last runeforger died a thousand years ago.
KNOWLEDGE 25:
What normal scholars know:
What some people know: Other races including elves, humans, mamluk, and even prime volunteered for the project. Some humans, many mamluks, and many dwarves survived the ritual
KNOWLEDGE 30:
This is what the Dwarven scholars know:
The Warforged were reintroduced with the Great Cataclysm. Durkault, the God of Runes had laid inert for over 1,000 years after the Great Betrayal. With him, many of the secrets of Dwarven Magic died. When he was resurrected, runes long dormant sprung to life.
In the haste to win the War of Wars, Dwarves using old Dwarven Thoughtstones tried to emulate the heyday of their Ancestors by rekindling the Ancient Runeforges. No dwarf since Durkault's Death had been able to make a rune work, all of a sudden this power was at their fingertips. However, no living dwarf existed who had ever completed this ritual.
Desperate times forced their hand and they took thousands of Dwarven, Human, and even Elven volunteers to under go 'Transferrence', the blending of soul and armor. The result was tragic. Most ended up going mad after the war. During the war they performed heroically wracking up incredible numbers due to their inability to feel pain, however once the war was over, they couldn't cope with being constructs in a human world and they began to wander, losing humanity, and eventually either becoming inert or turning psychotic or delusional.
Warforging was made illegal. All the forges shut down, and the project was put under study to see what went wrong.
KNOWLEDGE 35:
What only a few Dwarven Scholars know:
Elves made their own warforged made of wood and other natural materials, they enlisted druids to help the production and manifested in a premade body. However, the elf trapped in the body couldn't leave as the spirit was trapped and most turned insane. None survived the Dwarven method of Runeforging. Elves banned the practice after the utter failure of their experiment.
No human or Prime has successfully reproduced a true warforged though many found ways to cheat and make creations close to the warforged.
KNOWLEDGE 40:
What only Afestus knows:
Afestus, as far as we know, is the only ancient warforged still alive. He alone knows the true rituals needed to make a Warforged in the old method and he alone knows what his race did wrong in the Great War having survived his own joining over a thousand years ago.
